St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill

St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill, at 313 2nd St. NE, was finished in 1891. The site was planned and a cornerstone laid in 1868, to become a cathedral for German-immigrant Catholics. The Gothic-style church was designed by an architect from Cologne, and modeled after the Cologne Cathedral. It is built of brown stone from Hershey, Pennsylvania.
