235 Second Street NE

The Thomas-Markward Hall of the Young Woman’s Christian Home is at 235 Second Street NE. The Young Woman’s Christian Home was founded in 1833 by Mary Wilkinson, who wanted to set up a safe place for women coming to D.C. to live, in memory of her daughter who had died. The organization was chartered by Congress in 1887. It was located in other buildings on Capitol Hill before building the current building in 1931.
