Heurich House

Heurich House, also known as the Brewmaster’s Castle, was built by Christian Heurich in 1894, at 1307 New Hampshire Avenue NW. It is a large Victorian mansion, and was the first fireproof home built in D.C., using concrete and steel. Heurich ran the Christian Heurich Brewing Company, which was the largest private employer in D.C. He was a major landowner and philanthropist in the area. He ran the brewing company until he died at age 102.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
