The Lurgan, at 919 L St. NW, is an apartment building designed by Appleton P. Clark in 1913. Clark was a prominent D.C. architect in the first half of the 20th century, designing many D.C. buildings including 27 apartment buildings.
The Lurgan is four stories tall, with a brick exterior and mission-revival details and roof. It is currently vacant with boarded windows. The Marriot Corporation owns it, and has just completed the nearby Marriott Marquis. Marriott has applied to the District to construct a twelve-story office and hotel building near the Marquis, and proposes tearing down the surrounding buildings but incorporating the facade of the Lurgan into the new construction.
