The Nathan Loughborough House is at 3039-3041 M St. in Georgetown. The lot was purchased in 1801 by Nathan Loughborough, who built himself a townhouse on the western side of the lot, and sold the eastern side to Elisha Riggs, who founded Riggs Bank. Loughborough sued the U.S. government, claiming that assessing taxes on his property was taxation without representation. He lost the suit.
The Junior League of Washington has owned the property since 1960, as a gift from the Honorable and Mrs. Gordon Gray.
