459 I St. NW is boarded-up. It was formerly an auto body shop, originally a blacksmith shop, built in the 1880’s. The entire row of properties, from 443 to 459 I St., is scheduled to become a 172-unit apartment building plus retail space, by Equity Residential. The two adjacent rowhouses at 455 and 457 I St., are remaining as part of the apartment complex as approved by the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board, with the residential towers behind them. The auto body shop will also remain, with adaptive re-use. See also 455 I St. and 457 I St.
